‘Leading Lights’ - Advanced Diploma of Business Management

This innovative leadership program draws together a number of techniques to enable real organisational and individual leadership and career development. In doing so face-to-face sessions are supplemented by coaching in the workplace, action learning, ‘real’ live work projects, and group interaction. The program is based on the assumption that people learn by doing. A second assumption is that leadership education needs to be context specific for both the organisation and the individual.

Leading Lights develops leaders in two main ways. It develops the person’s competency and to do this is based on the Advanced Diploma of Business Management, which Orpheus is accredited to deliver. The key competencies are listed with the description of each unit of study later in this document.

The second area of development that goes beyond competence is capability. Capable people use their competencies in novel, unfamiliar circumstances as well as the familiar. This level of adaptation requires the person to be able to work in teams, know how to learn, be creative, have a high level of self-confidence, and have appropriate values. These are the essential elements of capability.

Upon successful completion of program requirements, participants will be awarded the qualification of Advanced Diploma of Business Management. Orpheus is a registered training organisation and, in line with Department of Education and Training regulations, will require all participants to enrol formally at the commencement of the program. The program has been accredited with Southern Cross University’s Graduate College of Management and would provide the successful participant with two units of advanced standing towards the Master of Business Administration qualification.

Orpheus facilitators will have a broad range of experience in facilitation of leadership development initiatives and of coaching individual leaders and managers across a range of organisational environments. Profiles of coaches / facilitators will be provided prior to commencement of a program.
